Kosmos Kammermusik: Quatuor Modigliani

The Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani died young and unsuccessfully in Paris in 1920 at the age of 35. But the Quatuor Modigliani did not see this as a bad omen when its four string players also found themselves in Paris under this name over 20 years ago. Today it is one of the most sought-after quartets of its generation. For example, it was the first string quartet to play in the Great Hall of the Elbphilharmonie during its opening. The first performance of Verdi's string quartet, which he composed between his "Aida" and the Messa da Requiem, took place in Paris. Igor Stravinsky was spoiled by success in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century, and the premiere scandal surrounding his "Sacre du Printemps" made him one of the most colourful figures in the seething metropolis. The Quatuor Modigliani has also selected his three string quartets.
