The Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich visits Bucharest

In the programme "Im Konzertsaal" you can listen to a concert recording of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich with Alisa Weilerstein and under the direction of Music Director Paavo Järvi.

The George Enescu Festival in Bucharest has been one of the major music festivals in Eastern Europe for almost 70 years. Last autumn, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich was also there for a concert.

The festival in Romania also explains the first music with which this concert begins: rarely heard here, but almost a must in Bucharest, is music by the festival's patron George Enescu, the most important Romanian composer. His opera "Oedipe" is a monumental work that combines echoes of Eastern European folk music with a French sensuality of sound.
The overture to "Oedipe" opens the concert, which offers further intense concert experiences with Shostakovich's Second Cello Concerto and Rachmaninov's Second Symphony.
