Maurice Ravel created his very own world of sound in his works - dazzling and refined, rich in nuance and extremely French. The 32-year-old conductor Thomas Guggeis will now conduct three of his works: the "Valses nobles et sentimentales", "Daphnis et Chloé" and "La valse". Guggeis began his career as an assistant to Daniel Barenboim; he has since conducted many major orchestras, from the Berlin Philharmonic to the Cleveland Orchestra, and has been General Music Director of Oper Frankfurt since 2023. He is now introducing himself to Zurich audiences for the first time. The North Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski, who once presented himself in the Tonhalle Zurich as the leader of the brilliantly performing folk music group Makedonissimo, will play Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2. This work combines the demonic with the intimate, always according to the composer's motto, who wanted to "create new forms for new ideas, new bottles for new wine".
