Double debut
Spanish violinist Maria Dueñas performs for the first time at the Tonhalle Zurich - and at La Scala in Milan.
The Wikipedia lists of celebrities born in the early 2000s are long, but naturally one-sided. The vast majority of those listed are sports stars in their early to mid-20s in their prime. There are also a few actors* and individual pop stars - these are also young industries. Politics, business and science, on the other hand, are not (yet) represented. And neither does classical music.
That is likely to change soon: In the concert business, the first 2000s are making the leap from the newcomer formats to the big stages. The violinist and composer María Dueñas, born in Granada in 2002, is currently making a particularly energetic leap. What she has achieved should easily be enough for the Wikipedia list: There's the exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon, for example. Or a performance at the Nobel Prize Concert 2025, or a Latin Grammy. And, above all, the rapidly increasing number of invitations from major orchestras: she recently performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time - now she will make her debut at the Tonhalle Zurich with Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Violin Concerto.
After the Zurich concerts, she will be travelling south with the orchestra for her first guest performance at La Scala in Milan. There she will once again be performing on a major stage - Wikipedia, please make a note!
