Pekka Kuusisto plays a Stradivari dating from 1738 and is considered one of the most gifted violinists, but that is as far as it goes with the typical characteristics of a virtuoso violinist.
He is also known as one of the wackiest violinists of our time and a one-of-a-kind, outstanding improviser.
For him, artistic freedom stands above all else. He has no interest in big money or a conventional career, and consciously forgoes expensive photo shoots and excessive PR campaigns. When he supports Greenpeace and environmental conservation, he does so from personal conviction rather than to attract media attention.
He is internationally renowned for his fresh and unusual handling of both the classical and the non-classical repertoire. He is an ardent champion of contemporary music, but feels equally at home with traditional Finnish folk music and jazz.
