Every season, we invite a major composer to act as Creative Chair – the perfect opportunity for you to listen to contemporary musical creations and be surprised and moved by compositions of our time. Throughout the season, the Orchestra will present various works written by the holder of the Creative Chair, and you will be able to experience our guest as a conductor or soloist, lecturer or in discussion. We promise you extremely fascinating encounters with multi-faceted artistic personalities of our time.

Previous holders of the Creative Chair: Esa-Pekka Salonen (14/15 season), Jörg Widmann (15/16 season), Péter Eötvös (16/17 season) and Brett Dean (17/18).

The composer, conductor and teacher Matthias Pintscher is so versatile and dynamic as few others. He does not only count among the present most important composers, but also among the most highly demanded conductors. His music and concept of music are very complex and diverse, thus addressing all his audience. As Creative Chair he will perform his own works as well as those of other composers. He will present his well-known compositions and recent ones.
