Three common threads run through the programme with which the Serbian cellist Petar Pejčić and the Moroccan pianist Nour Ayadi introduce themselves to the Zurich audience. Not only the legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, but also the other composers caused a sensation as instrumental soloists. With Prokofiev, Rostropovich and Shostakovich, three Russian composers are represented. And then there are Nadia Boulanger and Ástor Piazzolla: the French composer was one of the most sought-after composition teachers of the 20th century, and Piazzolla was one of her students. He came from tango as an Argentinian bandoneon player, but presented her with classical compositions that she did not like. She then had him play a tango, encouraged him to remain authentic - and thus provided the decisive impetus for Piazzolla's development of the "tango nuevo".
