Salzburg was called Juvavum in ancient Roman times - today the name lives on, slightly abbreviated, in the young Salzburg Javus Quartet. The four have been travelling together for years, have won numerous awards and now present themselves in the Série jeunes: With Joseph Haydn, they honour the "inventor" of the string quartet, while they play a deeply moving masterpiece by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, written during his last trip to Switzerland. In between is the 1947 quartet by Polish composer and violinist Grażyna Bacewicz, whose music has been increasingly rediscovered in recent years.
