Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili opened this season as a focus artist with Tchaikovsky. Shortly before the end of the season, she now presents Grieg's extremely popular piano concerto inspired by Schumann - and leaves Tchaikovsky to the orchestra and Paavo Järvi. They play the Symphony No. 1, which Tchaikovsky wrote when he was 26 years old. He had to wait two years for the premiere, which was a great success; at the subsequent celebration, he was so happy - according to a contemporary - that he kissed everyone present and smashed many glasses.
