Kleine Tonhalle
2027 is a Beethoven year: the composer died 200 years ago, and this orchestral concert introduces our Beethoven focus, which will reach its climax in the spring. The "Egmont" Overture and the rhythmically sparkling Symphony No. 7 provide the framework for Paul Hindemith's Violin Concerto, which is also coupled with an anniversary in this line-up: Paavo Järvi and violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann presented an impressive and multi-award-winning recording of it in 2013, the 50th anniversary of the composer's death. The violin concerto is one of the most lyrical works by this composer, whose music is often criticised as "dry". Frank Peter Zimmermann finds this to be unjustified, as he finds it to be emotional, vivid and grippingly bold.
