Beethoven composed 16 string quartets; over a period of around a quarter of a century, he developed the genre from the Haydn succession to the late works that point far into the future. In the Beethoven year 2027, the Belcea Quartet and Quatuor Ébène will perform all of the quartets - not in chronological order, but in such a way that different creative phases stand side by side.

In the last concert of the cycle, the Quatuor Ébène presents the "Razumovsky Quartet" No. 1, in the finale of which Beethoven honoured the dedicatee with echoes of Russian folk music. And then there is an insight into Beethoven's workshop: In addition to the Quartet op. 130, the ensemble also plays that "Grosse Fuge", which was initially planned as the final movement.
