DESCRIPTION:Beethoven composed 16 string quartets, and over a period of around a quarter of a century he developed the genre from the Haydn succession to the late works that point far into the future. In the Beethoven year 2027, the Belcea Quartet and Quatuor Ébène will perform all of his quartets - not in chronological order, but in such a way that different creative phases are juxtaposed.

In this concert, in addition to an early piece and the second "Rasumowsky Quartet", the Belcea Quartet also plays a work that Beethoven never wanted to have played in public, as he wrote in a letter in 1816: the "Quartetto serioso". It is an experimental, condensed work with a record-breakingly short (and record-breakingly explosive) first movement - which fortunately has long since been played in public.\n\nLudwig van  Beethoven Streichquartett Nr. 3 D-Dur op. 18 Nr. 3\n\n Streichquartett Nr. 11 f-Moll op. 95 «Quartetto serioso»\n\n Streichquartett Nr. 8 e-Moll op. 59 Nr. 2 «Rasumowsky»
