The motto of this year's chamber music lunch concerts is "Alpine Resonances - Switzerland as a source of inspiration for chamber music". To kick off the series, the Ilios Quartet, which was founded in 1997, will perform a work by Austrian composer and Brahms' friend Heinrich von Herzogenberg. Together with his wife, he spent several holidays in Appenzell, and in 1891 they built their summer house "Abendroth" in Heiden. Switzerland was also a place of inspiration and solace for Felix Mendelssohn, which helped him to develop his artistic creativity. On his fourth and last trip to Switzerland, he tried to find a "new attitude", as he put it, after the early death of his sister. It was here that he composed his moving string quartet "Requiem for Fanny". It was his last completed work: he also died a few months later.
