Just how much music shapes films becomes particularly clear when an orchestra plays live. And even more so when the same film can be experienced with different soundtracks: At the 14th International Film Competition, for example, the nine-minute short film ‘The Shyness of Trees’ will be screened with three different musical scores conducted by Frank Strobel – and a high-calibre jury will award one of them the ‘Golden Eye’.
The jury president is Oscar-winner Gabriel Yared (‘The Talented Mr Ripley’, ‘The English Patient’), who will also be taking to the piano that evening. Actress Martina Gedeck, who played a leading role in the political thriller *The Lives of Others* – for which Yared composed the score – will also be a member of the jury. Also taking part are the Swiss film music composers Michael Künstle and Matteo Pagamici, whose music will be featured in the ‘Swiss Composer Portrait’.
