Cristian Măcelaru loves contemporary works just as much as the classical repertoire. He once said that he "selfishly does everything I want to do". This time, he juxtaposes a work by our Creative Chair Dieter Ammann with Brahms' Symphony No. 3. In between there is Khachaturian's Violin Concerto, which the soloist Julia Fischer once described as "one of the most exciting works of the 20th century". The concerto combines the late Romantic tonal language with elements of Armenian folk music - and thus expands the stylistic spectrum once again in a different direction.
