Organ day for children

Children can discover the Tonhalle organ for a whole day. In concerts, on a course – and with 3D glasses.

An organ can thunder, sing and whistle. Thousands of pipes and wind tunnels can be discovered inside it. It is almost like a house with several floors and different rooms. There is a lot to explore around this largest of all instruments in a varied programme at the organ day for children.

Young and old alike will learn interesting and curious facts on a course. What does it take to make an organ sound like this? What changes when you press one stop button or another on it? And how can you play with your hands and feet at the same time? A 3D recording will show what happens inside the instrument during a performance. Thanks to our organ jukebox, this can be experienced wonderfully. In addition, everyone can make their own organ pipe and sweep through the back rooms of the Tonhalle Zurich for a quiz.

In two concerts, the Tonhalle organ then shows itself from very different angles. Our young guests can even pull out the stops themselves while the organist plays the keys. If there are still questions at the end: Presenter Kiki Maeder will elicit the answers from organists Daniela Timokhine and Iveta Apkalna.
